Sage to Business Central
Sage has served your business well, but you have reached its ceiling. Whether you are on Sage 50, Sage 200 or Sage Intacct, Business Central provides the integrated platform, the scalability and the modern cloud experience that Sage cannot match. We have migrated more organisations from Sage than any other platform.
When Sage no longer fits your business
Sage is excellent accounting software for small businesses. But as organisations grow, the limitations become apparent. Sage 50 is a desktop application that struggles with multi-user access, remote working and integration with modern cloud services. Sage 200 offers more capability but at a price point that makes Business Central competitive, and without the breadth of Microsoft's ecosystem.
The most common triggers for moving from Sage to Business Central are the need for integrated inventory management, project accounting, multi-entity consolidation or manufacturing capabilities. These are areas where Sage reaches its functional ceiling, while Business Central is only getting started.
The Microsoft ecosystem advantage is also significant. Business Central integrates natively with Microsoft 365, Power BI, Power Automate, Teams and SharePoint. If your organisation already uses Microsoft 365, which most businesses do, Business Central slots into your existing technology landscape without additional integration effort.
- Integrated financials, supply chain and project management in one platform
- Cloud-native with automatic updates and anywhere access
- Native Microsoft 365 integration, Power BI and Power Automate
- Scalable from ten users to hundreds without changing platform
- Manufacturing and service management in Premium edition
- Multiple Astral 365 extensions on Microsoft AppSource
| Capability | Sage | Business Central |

Your Sage data migrates cleanly
We have built extensive expertise in migrating data from Sage 50 and Sage 200 to Business Central. Chart of accounts, customer and vendor master data, item records, open transactions and historical data are all migrated using our proven process. Trial migrations are run first to validate the data, identify any transformation requirements and ensure accuracy before the final migration.
Business Central includes a Sage data migration extension that handles common migration scenarios. For more complex Sage configurations, we supplement this with custom migration tools that handle your specific data structures and business rules.
Historical transaction data migration is optional. Some clients prefer to start fresh in Business Central with opening balances, keeping Sage available as a read-only archive for historical queries. Others want full history migrated into Business Central for continuity. We support both approaches and will recommend the best option based on the volume and complexity of your historical data.
