Business migration and transition planning

Sage to Business Central is the most common migration path we handle. Whether you are on Sage 50 or Sage 200, the process follows the same structured approach. Here is what to expect.

When Is the Right Time to Move?

Most organisations move from Sage when they hit one or more of these triggers: they need inventory management beyond what Sage can handle, they need project accounting with Work in Progress (WIP) calculations, they are managing multiple entities and consolidation is becoming unsustainable in Sage, or they simply need a modern cloud platform that integrates with their Microsoft 365 environment.

What Data Migrates

We migrate your chart of accounts, customer master data, vendor master data, item records, open sales and purchase transactions, open customer and vendor balances and, optionally, historical transaction data. Business Central includes a Sage data migration extension that handles standard migration scenarios. For complex Sage configurations, we supplement this with custom migration tools.

How Long Does It Take

A typical Sage to Business Central migration takes eight to twelve weeks from discovery to go-live. The timeline depends on the number of users, the complexity of your requirements and the volume of data being migrated. We always run trial migrations before the final cutover to validate accuracy and identify any issues.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

The biggest mistake organisations make is trying to replicate their Sage setup exactly in Business Central. BC is a different platform with different capabilities and different ways of handling processes. A good implementation partner will guide you toward the BC-native way of doing things, which is almost always better than trying to force BC to behave like Sage.

The second most common pitfall is underestimating the importance of data cleanup. If your Sage data is messy, migrating it into Business Central does not make it clean. It makes it messy in a new system. We recommend cleaning up customer and vendor records, consolidating duplicate items and reconciling balances before migration.

What It Costs

Quick Start Sage to Business Central implementations start from £8,000 as a fixed price. Standard implementations are scoped and quoted based on your specific requirements. We publish our starting prices so you can budget before the first conversation.
